Dear friends,
My main intention for creating this website is to offer a simplistic but wholesome learning experience of the basic concepts of the four main branches of chemistry: Organic, Inorganic, physical and Analytical.
I believe that the existing syllabus for most grade/class levels relies on the student having clear understanding of the previous class syllabus, which may not be true because of inherent differences in the individuals’ learning skills. For example, many students that are especially slow learners, can have difficulty to follow the lessons in the classroom. In the prevailing education system, unfortunately the teachers are entrusted with specific time target to teach the assigned topics irrespective of realizing/assessing the varying learning skills of students. Added to this concern is the heavy reliance of teachers on the old-fashioned “blackboard and chalk” based teaching styles. The whole world is changing. There are many audio-visual aids available to teach any subject, especially chemistry. I realize and sincerely appreciate those teachers who are using audio visual aids to the best of their ability.
In my long journey of 38years as a lecturer I came to appreciate the fact that teaching can be made more effective if it is interactive. Demonstration of the important points in the lesson enables the student to see and read by him/herself. Step by step approach to a problem, derivation, mechanism or to a series of reactions is quite possible in this method. For demonstration one can use power point and flash platforms. These two tools are effective and easy to operate.
I practiced this in my classroom teaching and received tremendous response from the students. After my retirement I started this website and received excellent feedback. After a 3-year hiatus due to the pandemic and family health issues I am enthused to start working/improving the website. I believe I have the enthusiasm and drive to take up this task of providing lessons to everyone that desires to participate in this interactive endeavor. I sincerely believe this is a joint effort of learning from each other and sharing knowledge.
A sincere request to all students is to attempt answering questions after one has learnt/understood the subject discussed, but not to attempt to learn the subject through the questions. Most of the teachers that can answer any question you come up are able to do so because they have a thorough knowledge of the subject.
I strongly recommend all the viewers to review the videos currently I uploaded to the website. Because the earlier version of the web designing did not support flash and power point formats, I have converted them to videos format. However, anyone that needs the older format files can reach out to me. The current lessons do not follow any syllabus but amicable for learners at all levels. To make sure this comes across clearly, I included only a few from my huge collection of presentations using different tools of multimedia. Please feel free to request your specific requirements in the guest book. The website has all the details of my profile including my contributions thus far.
I have a special request to all the esteemed teachers. The idea in creating this website is to give better understanding of chemistry and related topics. I am creating a platform for all those who would like to share their knowledge and expertise. Your contributions are most welcome.
