CHEMISTRY DEPARTMENT

Department and Association activities during academic year 2004-2005

(1). Organized a free clock room for the pilligrims during Krishna pushkaram for all 12 days from 4am to 8pm. Forty four students of NC section took up this responsibility.

(2). Visited 15 schools and demonstrated chemistry experiments related to their syllabus like preparation of oxygen, chlorine, soap, properties of sulpuric acid, ammonia, detection of anions, cations sugars etc., students of NC section took up this activity. They have gone to the schools by taking a chemistry kit.

They cleared the doubts raised by the students. This helped our students as well as the school children.

For the above two activities H.O.D .and the association coordinator accompanied the students each time.

(3). Organized a state level seminar on ‘BIO FUELS’ from 21st to 24th September 2004. From 21st to 23rd preliminary rounds are conducted. On 24th finals are conducted. Nearly students from 50 colleges participated. From four preliminary rounds 8 best are selected (two from each preliminary round) and they competed in the finals. For the first three best rolling shields are awarded. For all the finalists individual prizes are awarded. The noteworthy point in this event is both in finals and preliminaries selected best students of our college also acted as judges. For the finals Sri Mohana Rao who is instrumental in establishing nearly 1000 goober gas plants in AP acted as judge along with a subject expert Sri Prsada Rao. H.O.D. acted as the internal judge.

(4). ours is the only department to organize a national level quiz for students in these 50 years. We organized a national level quiz in chemistry making use of computer knowledge (power point. Adobe photoshop, CorelDraw, adobe premier flash and chemistry software).42 colleges from all over the country took part actively. Six preliminary rounds are conducted and from each prelim one team is selected. Preliminary rounds are from 22nd to 25th November2004. Finals are conducted on 26th November 2004. (5) Members of the department used the computer for training the students as follows.

They designed nearly 300 structures and all the equations using multimedia and chemistry software for teaching final year and second year students. This covered 80% of their 3rd and 5th semester syllabus. They used them in the class rooms both with computer and OHP.(the necessary proof can be provided whenever it is needed for verification and confirmation).

(6) Members of the department prepared nearly 40 video lessons for degree and intermediate students and made use of them in training the students and for class room teaching (the necessary proof can be provided whenever it is needed for verification and confirmation).
